Swanage in Dorset marks the Eastern end of the world famous Jurassic Coast. The other end officially is Exmouth to the West. The rock at the Swanage end produces the most beautiful white cliffs to rival those around Dover. Swanage, in this pretty part of Dorset which is also known as the Isle of Purbeck, and the surrounding area are very popular with tourists who flock here for the country walks, the coastal walks, the beaches and the scenery. Swanage Lifeboat
[caption id="attachment_624" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Swanage Lifeboat"][/caption] Swanage Lifeboat Station is one of over 230 RNLI lifeboat stations around the coast of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The RNLI is a charity and relys on voluntary contributions from the public to keep its lifeboats at sea. At Swanage we have 2 lifeboats, an All Weather 'Mersey' class and a 'D-Class' inshore lifeboat. We have a volunteer crew of which 26 are sea going and 5 are shore crew to launch & recover the boats.
