Ocean Bay Restaurant

Friday was a mid-table weather day, nothing to get excited about that’s for sure so we jumped on the Steam Train and headed for Swanage where we had a table booked for 9 of us in the Ocean Bay Restaurant. We arrived first and were shown to a table at which we made ourselves comfortable.ocean_bay

I should add at this point that the restaurant is in a fabulous position at the eastern end of Swanage beach, in front of it there is just sand, no roads or buildings to spoil the view so a less discerning owner might decide not to try too hard, business would come just for the view! However, this restaurant does try hard in all areas, as well as the view the menu is tantalising, the wine list makes you want to try more and the service is excellent. Prices for 3 courses and wine are around £35 per head and it’s worth every penny.

They advertise themselves as child friendly and we had 3 age groups of children in our party, new-born, 3yrs and a teenager all of whom wad a good experience, the only area that the restaurant lets itself down was the lack of changing facilities for the new-born.

On a better day there would have been excellent outside tables on the verander but we ate inside with full views and an light airy atmosphere with the doors being open all the while.

A neat little idea can be found on the tables with a small paging device so you can call the waitresses electronically, asking for service, the bill or drinks depending on what button you press. I’m sure on a busier day this would prove an excellent system.

In my opinion the Ocean Bay Restaurant in Swanage is a 80%, well done and keep it up!
